2014 British Fashion Council nominations announced

The nominees are led by Alexander McQueen and J.W. Anderson

It’s time to brush of those fabulous designer frocks; this year’s British Fashion Council annual nominations have just been announced with some familiar faces and newcomers battling for the prestigious awards.

J.W. Anderson is among those leading with two nominations, both for womenswear designer and menswear designer, along with tough competition in both categories, such as Christopher Kane, who took the award last year in womenswear, and Christopher Bailey for Burberry and Paul Smith in menswear.

Anderson isn’t the only designer with two nominations, Alexander McQueen is also on par with recognition in the red carpet designer category and the leading British based designer brand category.

Competing with McQueen in the Best British Designer brand section is Victoria Beckham, who opened her first independent store in London last month.

Those competing for Model of the Year are Cara Delevingne and Sam Rollinson, who were both beaten by Edie Campbell last year, but are instead alongside BFF Jourdan Dunn this time around.

In the running for the Emerging Womenswear Designer are Central Saint Martin’s graduate and Topshop collaborator, duo Marques’Almeida, along with 1205 and Thomas Tait.

Battling in the Emerging Menswear Designer category are Craig Green, Lee Roach and Astrid Andersen, whose designs are trademarked with cropped puffer jackets and premium sportswear.

It’s sure to be a tough competition – we’ll have all the winners when they are revealed at the awards ceremony on December 1.
