Northumbria Graduate Honoured by District MTV

A graduate of Fashion Design from Northumbria University has been named as ‘one to watch’ by District MTV.

The District MTV Yearbook is in place to magnify the talents of young creatives and Northumbria graduate, Sally Hewett, has secured her place in this year’s edition.

Sally has already made herself known by winning the Topshop Graduate Design Award earlier this year, where she is currently enjoying a year-long placement in the hopes of furthering her career as a designer.

William Oliver, Editor of District MTV said: “We really wanted to focus on the next generation of rising creative stars with the District MTV Yearbook 2013 and Sally really fits into that perfectly.”

Sally said: “It’s amazing to be asked to be part of the yearbook and to be recognised by such a well known company! To be featured alongside other creatives from industries such as film making, music, and other designers is a great achievement.”

Sally’s time at University helped her to realise her dream of working for the High Street. She said: “Northumbria University helped me by allowing me to undertake a placement year and intern at different companies from High Street to High End. Also making a graduate collection, having to work at constant fast pace and juggling many projects prepared me for a career in the High Street.”

Douglas MacLennon, Principal Lecturer in Fashion, Northumbria University, said: “Sally was a great student to work with who progressed quickly and grew in design stature. It was great to see her confidence build during her final year and this recognition does not come as a surprise – she’s definitely one to watch!”

Since becoming a part of the yearbook, Sally has been photographed alongside the other talented young people as the Class of 2013. See all of these photos here.
