Fashion North’s Beauty Editor is back to take you through her tried and tested budget and luxury products of 2013. Part 2 is all skincare.
Luxury – Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm (£34.00)
I love cleansing balms. They’re gentle on the skin, filled with natural oils and leave my skin feeling clean without that harsh stinging sensation. This balm really is a treat for the skin, minimizing pores, evening out complexion issues and removing makeup all in one tub! If you’re forking out for one product let it be this.
Budget – Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter (£14.67)
This is one of my favourite launches of the year and a real treat to the skin. It works in a similar way to the Emma Hardie cleansing balm but for a fraction of the price. It’s really gentle on the skin but has no problem removing tough makeup and leaving your face soft, clean and hydrated.
Luxury – Antipodes Reincarnation Pure Facial Exfoliator (£20.00)
This is a gentle and creamy exfoliator great for clearing the pores from the dirt and grime that causes breakouts. You notice a real difference after just one use without the grit being harsh on the skin.
Budget – Boots Botanics Radiant Youth Microdermabrasion Polish (£5.49)
With a slightly harsher scrub than the luxury choice this one gets deep in the pores, removing all the dead skin that builds up. For this budget price it’s a great once a week exfoliator for bright and radiant skin.
Luxury – Pixi Glow Tonic (£16.00)
This is another of those holy grail products that beauty lovers just can’t live without. This exfoliating alcohol-free toner leaves the skin looking a little less dull especially in these bleak, cool months!
Budget – Boots Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz (£4.99)
This toner is lovely for those summer months, the spray application makes it cooling and refreshing. It instantly tightens the skin and closes pores making the skin look fresh and youthful. Using this at the end of your skincare regime and before moisturizer works best as it is hydrating without looking greasy.
Luxury – Sara Happ Brown Sugar Lip Scrub (£19.00)
Most people don’t realise the importance of exfoliating their lips, ecsepcially those who suffer from dry chapped lips but it’s a real must! The scrub leaves my lips smooth and buffed ready for lipstick or lip butter choice of the day.
Budget – Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub (£5.25)
This is actually my favourite lip scrub ever. It tastes like salted caramel, smells like well… POPCORN and leaves my lips feels so smooth and nourished I want to kiss the next person I see. It’s super easy to use and I wouldn’t apply lipstick without it now.
Luxury – Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream (£24.50)
Benefit’s thick and creamy eye cream, helps to improve dark circles, aigns of ageing and makes you look a little more awake in the mornings. Using this daily makes a significant difference to those dark circles that let everyone know how late your night was.
Budget – Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful Rejuvinating Eye Cream(£9.00)
I can’t say much for it’s anti-ageing purposes other than it instantly tightens my under eye area making it feel super tight and smooth. But this stuff is great for those morning when your eyes are a little puffier than usual.
Luxury – Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight Facial (£45.00)
Where to start… This is stuff is like liquid gold for your face. Apply a tiny squirt of this oil/serum all over the face and neck before bed and when you wake it’ll have completely absorbed into the skin leaving your face literally glowing!
Budget – Nspa Deep Hydrating Facial Oil (£7.00)
If you’ve not got a spare £45.00 laying around, fear not, try this amazing oil from Asda for hydrated but not oily skin. Ok, so the pipette applicator makes this look a little like a scientific experiment but trust me it’s good. Use one drop before moisturizer or a few for a deep over night skin conditioner.
Luxury – KIEHL’S Skin Rescuer (£29.50)
Using a stress relieving moisturizer is great for a pamper evening and your skin. This moisturizer really helps to combat the effects stress has on your face whilst soothing the skin making it super soft.
Budget – Nivea Soft cream (£2.45)
This is a fail safe, purse friendly face cream that is great for those with sensitive skin. I’ve been using this for years and have got many of my student friends and even my boyfriend in to using this. It’s basic but does what it needs. Apply to the face and neck for soft, smooth and nourished skin.
Luxury – Origins Super Spot Remover (£14.00)
Yep, we all get those awful break outs, and usually just before a date or a girls night out but pop this Origins spot remover on to the little beast and let it work it’s magic. After just a few hours the redness reduces and the irritation is calmed too.
Budget – Lush Grease Lightnin5 (£6.95)
Applying this when you start to feel spots appear will help fight them before they’ve become an unwelcome intruder on your face. This helps to fight spots but also reduce redness of those that have already appeared. This is by far the best spot treatment I’ve used from the high street but be careful it can dry a little flaky.
Luxury – REN ClearCalm 3 Clarity Restoring Mask (£30.00)
Perfect for calming down those breakouts moments this mask is to be used twice a week and smells really nice too. Take a 15 minute chill out session and apply this mask all over the face and neck to calm down irritated skin.
Budget – Lush Fresh face Masks (£5.95)
They have one of these for every skin type and problem and they’re incredible. They’re full of natural ingredients that are great for the skin and as they’re stored in the fridge they’re cooling on the face. I love these and would recommend anyone to go into a lush and try a free sample!
Luxury – DR Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips (£11.00)
Yep, you never grow out giggling at the name of this wonder tube, but trust me not only does the name boost your mood but the product… is fantastic. Lanolin is the ingredient in the product that moisturizes so well, making this thick balm perfect for those with super dry lips.
Budget – Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm(£2.99)
This year the Baby Lips balms finally became available in the UK and we all sang with happiness… well I did! These are moisturising, come in a range of shades and have the cutest girlie packaging ever. These are a must-have in every girls makeup bag!
