It’s all about “Khaki and shoulders” said Isabel Marant backstage at Paris fashion week today. The honourable collection offered Isabel’s effortless androgynous signature style and cocktails of textured garments created a cool, edgy and urban feel. The essence of a strong woman oozed through the collection and left the viewers setting their hearts on the Parisian pieces.
A strong start to the show with a monochrome theme which introduced casual perfectly cut separates. Slouchy high rise trousers teamed with broad power shouldered fur gillets and a touch of leather from woven belts and a brand new take on the staple wedged trainer took to the runway. The power statement gillet made another appearance when it was teamed with bohemian patterned trousers which created a fusion of grey hues.
A nonchalant white oversized jumper with cuffed sleeves featured a modern twist of the Grecian key which was teamed with neutral coloured fur statement heeled boots with leather strapping. The key print also featured on a wrap over sleeveless top with was tucked into airy slightly paper bag high-waist trousers. A simple tunic dress with a subtle side slit also embraced the Greek key which was worn with Isabel’s stand out fur and leather bound boots.
Shades of army green and brown then took centre stage in tailored separates. When army meets girly; we didn’t expect embellished sparkled skirts and Isabel stunned fashion critics with these flawless numbers. A heavy woven deep grey calf length jacket which hung effortlessly was adorned with a coffee brown knit jumper which sat beautifully on top of a heavily embellished skirt which had the essence of a sarong the way it was gathered in the middle.
The colours of these key pieces complemented each other gracefully and left us wondering if this is Isabel’s undercover approach to eveningwear.
Simple gathered dresses created an urban utility ethos which featured Isabel’s effortless tomboy street chic approach to everyday life. Oversized chunky knits and tailored boyfriend jackets layered finer sleek fabrics which created a mixture of femininity and power.
Minimal hair and make-up was worn by the models which reflected Isabel’s Parisian cool edge to life and each piece of her collection looks like it would not look out of place in your wardrobe at all, apart from the slightly 80s inspired shoulder pads.
