Valentino, a fashion house famous for glamour and luxury, certainly didn’t disappoint with this AW14 collection. The show brought an eclectic mix of classic Valentino long gowns and short shifts with an assortment of print and pattern.
The show opened with funky 70s inspired pieces in punchy pinks and bold reds printed in circular shapes. Although, a somewhat shouty print the long double-breasted coats and a-line skirts kept the couture edge.
Short shift and skater dresses, in a variety of prints, colours and fabrics but all finished with embellished colours, injected some cuteness to the collection.
After this, a quick transgression was made and out came the luxurious couture pieces.
Expertly embroidered hummingbird motifs covered wizard-like capes and ponchos, whilst delicately glistening sequin butterflies floated over sheer fabrics. The woodland vibes continued with all-over tapestry florals in rich metallic shades of gold, purple, blue and burgundy that oozed opulence.
Fabric choices incorporated all things a couture fall collection should: buttery leathers, deep furs, fuzzy velvet, soft sheer organzas and expensive wools. All used skilfully to create a harmonious and tactile combination that made you want to reach out and stroke the clothes.
Heavy bead embellishment and 3D floral fabric applique was placed over pretty sheer fabrics to create intricately layered garments that sparkled under the catwalk lights.
The looks were finished with printed and colourful leather handbags decorated with chain details, and worn like clutches clasped elegantly in the model’s hands.
Overall, this was a collection of super glamorous gowns with beautiful detailing and embroidery, but with another half that saw completely wearable collared dresses and patterns perfect for all fashion lovers out there.
