How to clean your make-up brushes

Makeup

Let’s be honest, we are all guilty of not cleaning our make-up brushes enough.

Just think about it for a second, if you haven’t washed your make-up brushes in six months, then the same make-up from six months ago is still going onto your skin every time you use it. And I haven’t even mentioned dead skin cells, natural oils, dirt. Gross!

So here’s our step-by-step guide to sprucing up your make-up brushes.

First of all, you need to buy the Tea Tree Face Wash from The Body Shop. It is a great 2-in-1 product and only costs £5.

Amazing as a face wash is for cleansing your skin and minimising pores, as it contains anti-bacterial qualities, it is also great for cleaning make-up brushes.

Step 1: Squeeze a small penny-sized amount into the palm of your hand.

Step 2: Run the brush under warm water and gently work the brush into the product.

Step 3: Rinse and repeat (usually about three times) until the brush is make-up free.

Step 4: Place the clean brushes on a clean hand towel to dry. I recommend doing this before you go to bed, so in the morning your brushes are dry and ready to use again.

Tip: If you don’t have time to let them dry naturally, use a hairdryer on a cool heat setting to dry them off.

When the brushes are dry, they’re as good as new – clean, soft and ready for a fresh face of make-up.

Benefits of washing your make-up brushes:

1: The life of your make-up brushes increases. Who wants to spend money on make-up brushes to only have them last a year because they are clogged up with make-up?

2: Save you money; cleaning them regularly will keep them soft and looking like new, and will stop you from being tempted into buying new brushes.

3: Reduce breakouts; the longer you leave washing your makeup brushes, the more bacteria they will gather. By washing them more often you reduce the risk of old make-up clogging up your skin.
