Crazy for alternative clutch bags

clutch bags

ASOS has seriously stepped up their clutch bag game this season and we are loving it.

Rewind back to my school prom in July 2010. Blood, sweat and tears were shed in the months leading up to the all important day. Not only was there tears over finding the perfect dress, but the perfect accessories too. After months of hunting, I finally settled on the fairest matching clutch bag and heels in all the land. They were both from Irregular Choice and were an off-white colour with red hearts all over. I remember the clutch bag had flecks of gold glitter running through the fabric and was lined with orange faux fur inside. It was the coolest bag I had ever owned, and stood out like an (extremely pretty) sore thumb among the mixed crowd of diamante, satin and boring black clutches at prom.

Fast-forward four years and my clutch bag isn’t quite as unique or quirky as it once was. In fact, clutch bags nowadays make my fur-lined wacky heart clutch look plain old boring.

It all started off with the infamous Lulu Guinness lip clutch bag. I remember seeing it and thinking wow – albeit reminding myself afterwards that the price tag was not so amazing. Then followed more recently, Anya Hindmarch models owned the catwalk earlier in the year, holding some of the quirkiest clutches we’d ever seen – including the gold crisp packet clutch. Other notable clutch bags in the A/W 2014 shows included the Sophia Webster slogan ones which read phrases such as “I want the fairytale.”

However, one problem with these wonderfully quirky clutch bags was the designer price tag – but not to fear my fellow handbag-loving humans of the world – ASOS has come to our rescue and they have a whole bunch of weird and wonderful bags to choose from. And better yet, once you’ve bought yourself one of these quirky clutches, you’ll never have to think about what to wear again because the bag will do all the talking. Check out our top picks below:

Fantasy Island

First for clutches

Can we just have a moment of silence for how perfect the unicorn clutch bag is? It’s holographic and it’s a unicorn, what could be better than that? It’s available from New Look @ ASOS and matches perfectly with the pastel blue cloud clutch, and better yet, they’re both under £15. The bag adorned with crazy glittery lips, lightning bolts and eyes is a Monki clutch bag available at ASOS and is perfect for making a simple outfit pop. The final one of the bunch is the Whitepepper eye clutch bag which is a bit pricier than the others but would look amazing with a black ensemble and cobalt blue heels.

Second for clutch

These set of clutches are very similar to bags seen in the Anya Hindmarch and Moschino shows earlier in the year and for a fraction of the price tag, we can’t complain. We loved this Hindmarch-inspired novelty clutch bag and think it’s definitely more of a purse-friendly price than the aforementioned designer collections. Now, the final three clutch bags, we just really couldn’t leave out. A doughnut, burger and chocolate clutch bag – what more could a girl want? Plus, they’re a whole lot better for you than the real thing.

Celebratory Clutch

Third clutch bags

Christmas is coming, and with Christmas comes the New Year and a whole lot of sparkly party dresses. So, why not add a fancy clutch to the mix? Although the wear-time for this bauble clutch will only be seasonal, we couldn’t resist adding it in and for £12.99 it’s a novelty item that won’t break the bank. The champagne bottle clutch was another that we just had to include – it’s coated in glittery goodness and is sure to get you some compliments at this year’s Christmas party. The clear box clutch with eyes caught our eye as it’s a simple bag but has a whole lot of character – love. And finally, last but most definitely not least, we have found the ideal clutch for your upcoming New Years Eve party – similarly shaped to the Sophia Webster clutches, this gold glittery ALDO clutch bag is the perfect companion to take you from 2014 to 2015 in style.
