This Sunday (19th) is Father’s Day and although they gave ‘Dad Dancing’ a name and know how to truly embarrass us, this is the day to truly celebrate Dads everywhere, thanking them for everything they do for us, so here are a few ideas for North East Days out with Dad:

1 Beamish Museum

This Sunday Beamish is hosting a Reliability Run, featuring a 150 mile run for vintage cars, vehicles and motorcycles. The Museum will be open from 8:30am for spectators to watch the cars set off, the vehicles are due to be returning around 3:30pm. A fun day out for all the family, especially car-savvy Dads!

Beamish currently have a  North East Police History Society Exhibition on display also, which will be well worth a look! For more info, head to www.beamish.org.uk

2. Tynemouth Beach

If you would prefer a more relaxing day with your Dad, why not take a trip down to Tynemouth beach. You can walk along the coast and maybe get an ice cream or some fish and chips. Great for families with dogs or young children, who’ll enjoy playing outside.

3. The Bowes Museum

Now, while this may be a cheeky excuse for you to check out the new, Shoes: Pain and Pleasure, exhibition at the Bowes Museum, you could make a day of it and treat your Dad to afternoon tea in the Museum’s café and a walk around the grounds.

4. Go Bowling

There are plenty of bowling alleys in the North East so why not take the whole family bowling, let your Dad play big kid and enjoy bowling. Afterwards you could go out for a meal, maybe to Fat Buddha, for an Asian Fusion appetites or to Pitcher and Piano, on the Quayside.

5. Mini golf

For the child-at-heart, Mini Golf is a wonderful, fun idea that can involve all the family. Pay one of these North East parks a visit this Father’s Day:

  • Lost World Mini Golf, North Shields
  • Tyne mouth Park Mini Golf
  • Whitley Bay Mini Golf Park
  • Parklands Mini Golf, High Gosforth Park, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

6. Stay in

If none of these suit your Dad, why not just have a night-in. You could make your Dad’s favourite meal, or order a takeaway, play board games and treat your Dad to a chilled night in – and this time you’ll have to compromise on the  movie!
