It seems that the Knowles family have kissed and made up since that infamous elevator fight earlier this year. This week (week starting Monday November 17), saw the Knowles family reunite to celebrate the marriage of Solange Knowles, 28, and her long-term boyfriend, Alan Ferguson, 51, in New Orleans.

Solange, who is known for her quirky and vibrant fashion sense, has released images of her big day taken by Rog Walker, and it was no surprise to us that she opted for an unconventional, jaw-dropping wedding dress. The bride wore a high round neck dress that skimmed her waist and fell straight to the floor, complimented with an oversized cape, which trailed not far behind her. The unique dress was designed by Humberto Leon for Kenzo. Solange accessorised her look with a gold bangle on each arm and wore her hair in her statement afro. Solange’s make-up was kept natural with a rep lip and nude nails. In true Knowles style, Solange arrived at the ceremony wearing a busty v-neck ivory jumpsuit and cape, designed by Stephanie Rolland. Her husband and son both wore matching off-white suits.

The guests, including her sister Beyoncé, all wore off-white outfits making the wedding photos captivating. The wedding was old school, 100 guests attended and after the ceremony the newlyweds rode off on bicycles.  Beyoncé and Solange book took to Instagram to share the special day, which included the most adorable fifteen-second video of Solange dancing with her ten-year-old son, Daniel Julez.

Other celebrities who decided to ditch the traditional dresses on their wedding day are Gwen Stefani, who wore a two-tone white and pink dress, Jessica Biel, who wore pink, Dita Von Teese, wore purple and Kayley Cuoco who also wore pink.

This brings the question, are women more open about what they would wear on their wedding day? After all, there are no rules that the traditional white dress has to be worn. You should still be able to have your own personal style on your wedding day.

I spoke to newly engaged Amy-Lauren Fitzsimmons, a 20-year-old student from University of Sunderland, about her opinion on bridal dresses and Solange’s look on her big day, she said: “I loved Solange’s dress. I thought it was gorgeous and so unique, and I loved the one-piece even more. I’m all up for none traditional wedding dresses. I think it shows a bride’s personality wonderfully. I mean if you can’t go a bit crazy on your wedding day, when can you? I totally understand that some brides love traditional though, too.

I’m looking for something that I feel completely comfortable in but also feel fabulous in. I’m really lusting after tea-length dresses as I think they have got a gorgeous 60s twist to them which I love. I’m a huge believer that you don’t find the dress, the dress finds you. You’ll know when you put it on so I’ll have to wait and see.”
