The solution to your Halloween costume dilemmas

Halloween is literally a couple of days away and I know some of you girls out there will still be no further forward in choosing a costume. Am I right? If this is the case, I might just have the answer.

Student budgets can be harsh at university, so money can be on the sparse side of things at times, and although some Halloween costumes look rather tacky they can be sold for ridiculously expensive prices. The solution? Buy a dress that’ll see you through more nights than just Hallows Eve.

Last year, I was all too aware of this situation so I turned to the high street for inspiration and found the perfect piece from affordable retailer New Look. And this year, their Halloween section seems even better. Head to your nearest New Look store and find a dress in the darkest of shades that will be ever so covetable on the scariest night of the year.

The idea of working with occasion wear is the fact that your outfit is going to look a lot classier than, well trashier outfits. Lace dresses make dressing up for the occasion fun but a lot easier. All you really need to worry about are your props, makeup and hair (if you’re not wearing a wig, that is).

It’s quite simple; if you’re going as a witch then slip on some purple lipstick, like Kate Moss for Rimmel’s berry shade (£5.49) and add this Black Lace Bodycon Dress (£22.99) to the mix. Simply scour stores across Sunderland for a witch’s hat and broomstick (like Poundland) and pop on your black heels.

Going as a vampire, maybe? New Look have you covered once again. This Black Lace Bardot Dress (£39.99) will make you feel ultimately gothic teamed with some novelty Dracula fangs, a dark red matte lipstick and of course a black cape for added authenticity.

Or perhaps you’re just going as the red devil. If so, you need this Dark Red Lace Midi Dress (£24.99) to pair with some devil horns and the raciest of red heels. Curl your hair and complete the look with the best smoky eye make-up. Extra points for those who sport the ensemble with a novelty plastic pitch fork.

So there you have it, it’s really that simple when you turn to your trusty high street stores. And you can tone down these dresses again and again and wear them on nights out with friends or even to family parties. You could even look in your own wardrobe right now; you might honestly be surprised at what pieces can be turned into something spooky for Halloween.
