Street Style: bold coats in Newcastle City Centre

Bold coats can be the item that completes and transforms your entire outfit. Wearing a distinctive design or an unusual texture will certainly display a sense of creativity to an otherwise casual outfit.

Coats are essential to battle the North East’s weather climate therefore, a stylish coat is a must. We searched for people in Newcastle City Centre wearing these coats which come in different shapes, prints, designs and colours; one of which being a pink, rib-knit puffer jacket.

The puffer coat originates from 1936 but it returned to popularity again in 2016 when luxury designer brand Balenciaga featured the puffer in their A/W 2016 catwalk collection.

This look was spotted again in the streets of Newcastle worn by student, Grace Gent, 18 who said she loves the puffer coat as it “suits most outfits.”

Her coat is now in the Topshop sale, priced at £40 from £59. Unfortunately, for this exact coat, the only size left is a 16, search ‘Corduroy Puffer Jacket’ if this is the one for you.

Another stand-out coat spotted in Newcastle city centre was a cropped, tartan teddy bear coat which has been a winter favourite since last year.

This style of coat has lasted multiple seasons as its cuddly embrace became a token for the Instagram influencer’s feed – spotted on endless fashion gurus including, Sarah Ashcroft.

Here’s an adaptation of the classic brown, teddy-bear coat with a unique tartan print and cropped style worn by Francessca Bardell, 20. Get a similar look on for £31.50 (currently up to 50 per cent off site-wide).

The pea coat was also spotted in Newcastle City Centre in a heather grey colouring and sleek, sophisticated styling. This look is worn by student Sanana Rehane, 37, who describes her style as “classic, spontaneous and symbolic.”

Like the pea coat, the classic trench coat has lasted multiple seasons in fashion creating a statement piece that will remain on the high street as a timeless trend.

Animal prints never seem to go out of fashion, there are endless choices from snake to leopard, to zebra, tiger and dalmatian. Leopard print coats are still an iconic piece for those who still want to stay warm but look glamorous.
