TikTok is the latest social media platform most (if not all) of us are addicted to. Here at Fashion North, we even have our own account @Fashion_North! Like most social media, it’s ‘transported’ many garments into our wish lists and onto trend forecasts. With its slew of new ‘influencers’ and social media stars (plus a few familiar faces), there’s more than enough fashion inspiration on the new-ish app, as well as individuals to look to for style tips.
The 00’s are seeing, in the classic cycle of fashion, a come back. Thankfully, not every trend from the early 2000’s is- I’m looking at you chunky highlights and skirts over flared jeans. But some are creeping their way back into our wardrobes and it’s only fair that TikTok is having a hand in this. So here are five trends we can thank TikTok for reviving, from what we probably believed was an overdue death.
1. Sweater vests
This classic sleeveless knit is back, complete with argyle patterns, chunky knits and cropped fits. They’ve had a *bit* of a make over and can now be seen paired with oversized shirts and the chunky boots we saw all over the runway this season.

2.The low waist
A year ago, we probably would have prayed to the gods for low waist jeans never to come back into fashion. We had flashbacks to the whale tails and spray on jeans from our childhoods. But they’ve managed to find their way back into the shops and clinging to our hip bones.

They’re back! After they were shunned by Chanel so many years ago and re-invented by Gaultier, the corset is now seemingly a staple in every TikTok girls wardrobe. Worn over shirts, t-shirts and even with the occasional silk maxi skirt, the corset as outerwear is versatile…and surprisingly comfortable.

4. Tennis skirts
And we thought they were reserved solely for Wimbledon. The tennis skirt is being worn by all the trendy TikTok girls. Regularly paired with cropped cardigans (another trend swimming around the internet), chunky knits or sporty crop tops, they work well as a transition piece between summer and winter fashion.

Don’t be fooled, this isn’t your traditional leather jacket and trousers. Think of your favourite slouchy suit, but in leather. If you haven’t seen leather blazers and wide leg trousers flying off the rails, then clearly you have been living under a rock.
