A good pair of boots are always a necessity at this time of year, we need something to keep are toes cosy and out of the rain. This year, boots have got tougher and have a biker edge to them. Buckles, studs and gold hardware were seen all over the catwalks for this season and the high street quickly picked up on the grungy look.
Balenciaga kicked off the boot trend with their cut out pair that has two big buckles on the side. Fierce boots were soon picked up all over the catwalks and every celebrity and their dog was seen wearing a pair too. Fearne Cotton wore a black pair complete with straps and studs whereas Vanessa Hudgens toned it down and went for a single buckle across the ankle.
The high street weren’t far behind with River Island showing off their heavily cut out sections and H&M with gold hardware and rings around the back.
We spoke to a few girls on The University of Sunderland campus who were following the biker boot trend to get their thoughts and find out why they bought them in the first place. Ellie Fisher-Thompson, 19, Newcastle had a lovely low-ankle pair on. They have two buckles on and a small stack heel. She bought them from M&S for £40, “The main reason I bought them was because I needed a comfy pair of shoes that looked durable for the winter.”
Varanron Kladnum, 22, an international student from Thailand wears a black pair from Next for £18. “I needed a pair of boots, these were quite cheap and looked really nice too!” Her suede boots had three buckles on the side and go just above the ankle, perfect for hiding your bright pink fluffy socks.
Anna Fort, 19, from Burnley took the trend with a little twist. Unlike the usual tough-look boots you see, she wore a brown pair with a fluffy lining and a single buckle. “I wanted some warm shoes to keep my feet toasty in the winter and these were a bit different to all the others I’d seen” What’s even better is that this pair are currently in the sale at Schuh for around £70!
Zoe Skerrett, 19, Durham wore a black pair with straps around the ankle and gold hardware from New Look. “I wanted a pair that were waterproof so I could wear them in winter, and I’d seen a lot of celebrities wearing biker boots so I knew they were on trend.” At £30 these are a steal and tick all the boxes when it comes to toughening up an outfit.
