What To Wear To A Baby Shower

Girls, this week I’ve been experiencing a huge problem. Granted, in the grand scheme of things, it’s probably not as serious as I’m making it out to be, but it’s a problem nonetheless. My friend is having a baby shower, and I seriously couldn’t figure out what to wear.

I’ve never been to a baby shower before, so I don’t know what would be deemed “appropriate”. I’m picturing scenes from a fairytale, cherubs floating around and elfish-looking blondes in long white floaty dresses …okay, I’m snapping back to reality now and placing my journalist hat firmly on my head. Here’s a fail-safe list of rules to follow for the perfect baby shower look.

It’s a safe assumption that although you’re attending a baby shower, you can still exercise your fashion right to look chic and effortless. Like any celebratory occasion, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your latest purchases. Typically, winter baby showers will be held indoors as the weather won’t permit for a garden-party style event, so for your wardrobe you can still wear dresses providing you team them with a pair of tights to keep you warm.

If you choose to go for a dress, opt for something you wouldn’t typically wear on a night out. Yeah you’ve got great legs and yeah you might be so skinny that bodycon dresses were definitely designed with you in mind, but chances are all your friends already know that since you wear the same style of clothing to every event you attend. Why not try and see this occasion as your opportunity to try a style of dress you love but don’t think is very “you”, give the lady with the bump a chance, girls.

A classic belt wrap dress will create a fabulous silhouette while maintaining a feminine, demure vibe, and best of all this shape flatters almost every body type. Try this beautiful Grecian style wrap maxi from Topshop in Mauve, £49, to channel grown-up elegance. Wear with gold flats for a more relaxed feel.

Colour and print wise, don’t be afraid to be bold and shop for a dress in a floral print, like this £40 tunic from Topshop, or in pastel colours. Remember, florals aren’t just for spring and pastels are always acceptable when trying to go for a cute and innocent vibe.

Since it is Winter, it’s understandable that you may prefer to opt for trousers for this occasion. Why not try a pair of chic high-waisted trousers teamed with a see-through blouse and a pair of strappy-heeled sandals? This combination is a classic and you’re sure to look stylish, yet effortless. Try these £32 geometric print trousers from River Island as they’re bang on trend and will definitely make you look like a fashion know-it-all.

With the odds of this being a day-time event, I wouldn’t suggest going too wild in the accessories department. I’d advise you go with one statement item, like a fashion-forward chunky gold necklace or a super sparkly bracelet. Finally, for the chicest outfit finisher, you must go for a classic tote style bag in a colour that complements your chosen outfit.

You’re good to go!
