Tommy Hilfiger revealed his circus and rock chick inspired S/S 15 collection at this year’s New York Fashion Week.
The scene for the show was a rock ‘n’ roll music festival set in the late 1960s. To bring the 60s to life, the catwalk was complete with a live band, strobe lights and a floral runway.
If rock ‘n’ roll designs weren’t enough, Hilfiger explored his creative side bringing circus inspired ready-to-wear clothing to the catwalk. Mixing red striped long coats with metallic detailing and bold buttons with loop fastenings, think Britney Spears Circus video.
The collection’s colour palette was darker than most spring/summer collections. Hilfiger combined burgundy with navy blue and infused splashes of bright yellow with green. Unlike most spring/summer collections, Hilfiger brought fur jackets and leather pants to the catwalk, strange in most spring/summer collections but after trench coats and wooly jumpers had already graced the catwalk, they seemed to fit the collection well.
Stars were a reoccurring theme throughout this year’s show, featuring on oversized knitwear, as well as being laser cut into the hem of mini dresses. Other motifs, like skulls and pierced hearts, were featured on leather jackets and knitwear, referring back to the rock chick look.
Although Hilfiger used a lot of leather and knitwear in his collection, there were some designs that were more suitable for a S/S collection. Swimwear featured frequently, and still managed to keep to the rock chick/circus vibe. Kendall Jenner strutted down the catwalk in a two-piece bikini with Belted Boyfriend Shorts and a triangle bra top, unique to say the least.
The gorgeous leather boots were a personal favourite. In a range of colours and styles with gold buckles and metallic finishes.
Tommy Hilfiger may have brought his collection to life on September 8, but for days leading up to the show, Alexa Chung took over the Hilfiger Instagram account. Alexa gave us sneak peeks of the catwalk set and models backstage. Hilfiger also announced on Twitter that Georgia May Jagger and Kendall Jenner would be modelling the S/S 15 collection.
