Boots, boots, boots! We love boots! But what happens when your good old faithfuls start to lose their shine? That pair of boots you’ve worn in so well that they’re the comfiest shoes you own — and your clear favouritism has caused scuff marks and scratches beyond repair.
We say, if you can’t fix them — turn them into something new! A DIY project perfect for any fashionista that loves denim, patchwork… or both!
What you will need:
- That pair of boots you just can’t bring yourself to throw away.
- A paint brush
- Fabric glue
- Iron on denim patches (or fabric of choice)
- and a cup of tea (or coffee, or hot chocolate if you’re feeling whimsical)
Step by step:
Get your boot…
Start by figuring out what shapes you want your patch work and then start thinking about size. Using a template helps, whether you trace around make-up pallets or lipstick cases find your shapes and sizes.
Cut out a few pieces of fabric, don’t jump ahead because as you’re going, your ideas of how everything fits together might change. Cut as you go, and work with the shape of the boot.
Peel the iron safety patch off the back if you’re using iron on fabric, and the rest is simple – using a paint brush, paint the back of the fabric with the fabric glue and start sticking.
Due to the shape of the boot, some pieces will stick easier than others, and some pieces of fabric will require more glue than others. Work with the shape of the boot and in some cases you may need to hold the fabric in place for a minute or so until the glue becomes tacky.
Then it is just a case of following your own style until the boot is covered and putting more glue wherever needed — and you’ll need some for the second boot, so go get another cuppa, maybe a chocolate bar or a brownie, and then get back to the cutting, the sticking, the fashion and the fabulous DIY patchwork boots!
