A Thousand Splendid Suns
A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner) is possibly one of the most touching, gut wrenching, emotional and uplifting books out there at the moment. The book centres around two Afghan women, Mariam and Laila, whose worlds collide through war, men, love and hate. The two women’s will to survive is truly inspiring and although it is a shocking and emotional read it is also one of the most uplifting books out there.

Wuthering Heights
This beautifully dark classic by Emily Bronte revolves around a young woman named Kathy and Heathcliffe, the foundling her father took in. Heathcliffe, who loses the protection of his adoptive father when he dies, is abused by Kathy’s brother and leaves Wuthering Heights believing that his love for Kathy is not mutual, until he returns years later as a wealthy man looking for revenge. The love story is violent, passionate and fiery and is set on the bleak moors of Yorkshire.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
This mysterious book follows a young boy, Jacob, as he travels to a British Island after a family disaster, where he discovers the remains of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar children. The haunting book contains spooky historical photography to make the reader feel like they are part of the mystery of the children of the orphanage and is a perfect read for those dark winter nights.
