Feminist apparel is once again on the lips of the fashion world this week after Cara Delevingne recently posted a photo of herself and model Adwoa Aboah on Instagram sporting the sought after statement sweatshirt reading THE FUTURE IS FEMALE.
The instagramarati sprung immediately into life with excitement alongside the comment from Cara with links to be able to buy the t-shirt with some of the proceeds going to charity.
Since this instagram post, Cara has come under mass scrutiny from a small feminist owned business who have recently recreated the sweatshirt before Cara and their supporters.
Creator of the sweatshirt, Otherwild, posted: “If model/actress Cara Delevingne wanted to sell my line, she would need to wholesale them from Otherwild, and because we donate 25% of our line’s proceeds to Planned Parenthood, Delevingne’s ethical practise would benefit not only our woman-owned small business but would also serve as a significant donation to PP.”
They went to post: “Delevingne’s choice to life and manufacture Otherwild’s design, claiming it as her own to sell with an undisclosed charitable offering, in indefensible. Her actions ironically counter the very message of the slogan ‘The Future Is Female’, and it’s confounding that she would do this to a small queer feminist-owned business after purchasing the product from us just a few weeks ago.”
Although filled with controversy and lack of females looking out for females, the message is still clear. With the combination of various celebrities and politicians previously wearing ‘This Is What A Feminist Looks Like‘ T-shirts last year and a grander scope of what it means to be a feminist in 2015, the fashion world has thrown up a myriad of t-shirts for female and male feminists:
