Ever wanted that classic late-90s to early-2000s Hip Hop style but don’t know where to start?
I set out with the mission to dress this way with only £5o in my pocket and found that taking inspiration from the like of Tupac, the Beastie Boys, young Kim Kardashian and other style icons of the time was easier than I thought it was.
Here are four staple outfits that bring this iconic fashion into this decade.
Layering is your new best friend.
A plain long sleeve white under a t-shirt, often times a graphic tee or one representing a band is classic to the time.
Worn by people like Sum 41, The Beastie Boys and even Tupac loved layering.
Found for £1 in a charity shop, here it’s paired with another two charity shop finds, the t-shirt cost £3 and the denim skirt £7!
Paired with hoops, which were essential for the time as a popular earring and a plain black cap.
A perfect 90s day outfit.
A long sleeve polo is a staple look for Tupac. This outfit is an tribute to that.
Paired with a basic pair of jeans, this look showcases the androgyny in hip hop fashion.
The £6 shirt from a local charity shop is also accessorised with a pair of fake Chanel glasses that were £1 in a charity shop.
A personal favourite, this kind of outfit was essential at the time.
A simple graphic t-shirt, this one with a sassy phrase on it. £3 from Primark.
I paired this with a pair of wide leg trousers found for £5 from a charity shop.
I also accessorised with a pair of boxers visible to give the appearance of a low rise and even baggier pair of jeans.
The sunglasses can be found in Primark, and the jewellery was all found in the charity shops locally.
And as summer approaches, a beach look is essential.
More of the layering, this time with contrasting patterns.
The stripy vest was £3 from a local charity shop and the Hawaiian shirt was also from a charity shop, for only £2.
Paired with a pair of jean shorts and a backwards cap, also found in the charity shops for £1.50 – this outfit is perfect for a beach trip in both 2025 and 1995!
Whether you’re trying something new or looking for a whole style revamp – it doesn’t have to cost you or the environment.
And it sure doesn’t have to be boing. Keep ya head up!
