Dress for Less

For week two of my course (Fashion Design and Promotion) for styling, I was presented by my lecturer with a challenge called dress for less. What this consisted of was styling two outfits that were £30 or under! We were told the cheaper the better. I was given many option of how I could go about completing this styling challenge such as having somebody else model my looks or using a mannequin however I thought using myself for the looks was more personal to my work and using a mannequin wouldn’t give my shots full potential.

Outfit 1:

This is outfit number 1. I admire this outfit, and I’ve worn it to a lot of occasions in the past and will do so again. My top (Pretty Little Thing, £5) has short sleeves and a black low-cut back, but it’s quite high at the top. This top is versatile and appropriate for an extensive selection of events. For example, I’ve worn it to night events, shopping days, and days at university. This little black top pairs perfectly with my high wasted, wide legged leopard print jeans. Personally, I think these jeans are a perfect fashion choice for attending events like concerts, and I’ve noticed them worn widely at those kind of venues. Anything leopard print fascinates me, so I had to say yes to this exact pair of jeans. My opinion is that the jeans have more style because of the leopard print pattern. I also utilized my wide-leg leopard print jeans from Pretty Little Thing for £11. Finally, I wore my hair back to showcase a tiny yet classic pair of hooped earrings (New Look £3) that completed my look.

Close Up:

I wanted to include an extra photo to give a closer look at my outfit, especially my jeans. This close-up highlights the extra elements, like the jeans’ button, belt loops and black stitch lines. It also provides a close-up of the pattern of leopard print.

Outfit 2:

Outfit number two consists of 3 items. A black crop top, light blue torn jeans and a black and white dogtooth patterned cardigan, finalised with a stylish pair of black ankle boots. Despite being quite basic, my black crop top from Primark (£2) is what makes the overall look pull together. My cardigan is from New Look (£9) however in uncertain about the pricing of my jeans. This look is perfect for a casual, cosy, cold day. I really enjoy how distinctive the cardigan’s gem-like buttons are. It gives the cardigan more vibrancy and individuality.

Extra:

Following on for my love of leopard print I did an extra shot with a leopard print top. However I decided against using this top as my main body of work as I felt it was less suited than my other options. One of the reasons was I thought it clashes with the leopard print bottoms and dogtooth cardigan.
