Shopping1

Hundreds of stores are following in the footsteps of our friends across the pond and making the US Black Friday, a British thing.

Explosive, un-missable discounts are set to hit the shops for one day only on November 28. These won’t be your average up-to 70% off summer and winter sales, with the only things discounted being the things no-one wants. Rather than the end-of-season left-over stock, there will be across-the-board savings on all the current season must-haves.

Sam Czwordan-Wright, marketing executive of The Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland, said: “We’re expecting it (Black Friday) to be very successful and should have a few good offers on.”

The day is set to be so huge that the intu MetroCentre is going to have live entertainment, freebies, choir singers and has even issued a Black Friday survival guide. Expect 40% off women’s fashion and an even better, 60% off jewellery and accessories.

Trevor Pereira, commercial and digital director at intu which runs the MetroCentre and Eldon Square, said: “The date is now mainstream in the UK retail calendar and, along with Cyber Monday for on-line purchases, these four days are amongst the busiest shopping times of the year.”

He adds: “intu has some of the UK’s best shopping centres in the strongest locations, which means we’re anticipating a busy weekend. We’re focused on attracting footfall for our retailers so their businesses can flourish while providing every customer with a great Black Friday shopping experience.”

intu’s website, will be discounting items throughout to enthuse its 1.5 million monthly visitors across the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday weekend.
