My Favourite Flatlays: A Collection of Things I Love
Fashion North’s social media editor, Isabel Vadillo, captures a flatlay revealing the little things that reflect her personality and what she loves most.

At the centre of my daily routine is my eyelash curler. I can’t go a day without curling my lashes at least ten times. Whether it’s good for them or not, I’m completely addicted. Music, however, might be my greatest love. My Spotify is basically my best friend, and I make playlists like there’s no tomorrow. I also have a thing for collecting CDs, I think I own around 90, a mix of ones I’ve bought and others my dad has given me. Most people know that my favourite artist is Björk. I love not just her music, but her entire vibe and persona. If you’re new to her, the best way to start is by listening to her albums in release order. Debut and Post are perfect introductions before diving into Medúlla or Vulnicura. Some of my other favourite artists include Erykah Badu, Beyoncé, Kate Bush, and PJ Harvey.

It’s impossible for me to write an article and not mention jewellery, and the ridiculous amount of it I own. I’m especially drawn to the brassy, vintage-style bangles and rings. For years, I’ve raided my mam’s collection, begging to have pieces that have now become part of my daily rotation. Aside from that, most of my jewellery comes from charity shops or vintage shops. Charity shops are my favourite though, they usually have baskets full of unique little finds around 50p each. When it comes to earrings, I wear big hoops pretty much every day. Occasionally, I’ll switch things up with something a little more bohemian, but you’ll never catch me wearing studs.

Recently, I’ve found myself going back to the brand L’Occitane, partly for the nostalgia of growing up in France and partly because I love the quality of their products. This hand cream is my go-to because of it’s calm scent and rich texture, but I also love their Cherry Blossom range. For this flatlay, I wanted to create a more minimalistic look, so I placed the hand cream on top of my current read. The cover of The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion matched the aesthetic perfectly. I’ve always loved biographies and memoirs, and I’m really looking forward to getting deeper into this one.

My fujifilm digital camera appears a lot in my favourite flatlays. Over the years it’s captured so many memories, from family holidays in the 2010s, where I took photos of my parents, to birthday house parties during sixth form and moments throughout my university experience. This little red camera has become a perfect partner and plays a big part in the photos I share on Instagram. When I want something simpler and more compact than my Sony a6000, this 14 mega pixel fujifilm is always there.
