The North East’s top five independent menswear brands

To celebrate International Men’s Day today (November 19) we want to bring your attention to some of the best independent Menswear brands and shops available to you right here on your doorstep in the North East.

Independent brands don’t get enough credit as far as we’re concerned. They focus on providing you with a helpful and stress-free shopping experience and tend to excel in customer service and, at the same time, bring you off-beat and exclusive brands you won’t find on the high street. What’s not to love, right?!

If you’re a male then go check out these brands yourself or if you’re female then hopefully this will give you a little gift inspiration just in time for Christmas!

Simple Clothing

This is an independent and affordable street wear brand set up, and designed, by Sunderland teenager Preston Brown when he was just 17-years-old. Brown started by displaying his clothing collection in the store Port Independent, which he co-owns with friend Harry Adamson in Sunderland. Over the last couple of years the brand has grown and is now stocked in Topman stores across the North East.

Aphrodite Aphrodite is a Sunderland store that was opened 21-years-ago by two local brothers. The store has been more than successful since it opened and has grown from its original size of 500 square feet to the current size of 3800 square feet, as well as launching a world wide website. The store puts its success down to the student population and the loyal base of customers who’ve grown up shopping there.

END. clothing

After recently opening a new flagship store, on Grainger Street in Newcastle, and celebrating their ten-year anniversary of trading online, END has been attracting a lot of attention lately – including people queuing three days outside the store for the Kanye West Yeezy x Adidas trainers launch last Saturday.

The modern store spans across three floors and features an incredible floor-to-ceiling video wall, that links with the website and the brand’s online roots, bringing the store straight into the online age and creating a unique shopping experience.

Northern Threads Originally opening in 2006, by Nigel Binnie and Phil Goodfellow, after they “spotted a gap in the market for a forward thinking independent menswear store in the North East” the brand has grown hugely in the eight years since its launch. Now, there are two stores located in South Shields and an international website. Both stores provide a great shopping experience of hands-on friendly customer service and designer brands, such as Pretty Green, Ralph Lauren and Dr. Martens.

Psyche

Psyche is a luxury department store located in Middleborough housing over 150 of the world’s best brands. The store is impressive to the eye, both inside and out, and has been noticed by the fashion industry many times, which is reflected by the plethora of awards it has won; Drapers Fashion Awards (twice!), FHM magazine’s Retailer of the Year and GQ’s Best Menswear Shop to name a few.
