NYFW: Victoria Beckham

Words by Jess Thompson

A decade after Victoria Beckham’s first appearance at New York Fashion Week, she showcased her latest collection on Sunday 11, February.

She held a lavish runway show in one of the largest private houses in Manhattan, the Burden James Mansion situated in Carnegie Hill.

Beckhams’ aim to instil intimacy and add a more personal feel to the clothing wasn’t unusual this year, along with other designers, her normal 400 or more guests were substituted for only 90 attendees.

The likes of Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington were among the stars of the FROW and her biggest supporters, her children and husband, David Beckham, being the star attraction on the front row. A touching sentiment to her family at the end with a family hug after closing the show stole the limelight from the rest of the attendees at the front.

Paying thanks on Instagram, Victoria’s models wore neutral makeup by the British artist named as the most influential make-up artist in the world by Vogue, Pat McGrath and had world famous hair stylist Guido Palau, who has worked with models such as Cindy Crawford, who styled the models with straight sleek hair.

The Ready-To-Wear presentation was described, by Victoria herself as: “These clothes embrace the contours of the female form, echoing the design aesthetic that I originally started with.”

Her collection, influenced by her original designs, which she started with 10-years-ago, contained many monochrome colours with bespoke fitted outerwear in shades of green and navy. The models waists were highlighted with belts as hour glass figures were demonstrated with accentuated shoulders. Garments such as oversized crewneck jumpers and wide leg pants were also present with the oversized, slouched tote bag also being a feature within the show.

The Ready-To-Wear collection is available to pre-order online now.
