Corsets have been a statement fashion accessory for many years now, but it has recently risen up to popularity again. Many celebrities and influencers have been seen wearing them on social media platforms, not as a formal wear but instead, a casual wear with a lot of layerings on top. Unlike the past, where corsets are regarded as uncomfortable pieces which restrict the movability of women, today they have been reinvented to show off natures curves and boosts self-confidence of the wearer itself.
My vision for a new style of corset is heavily inspired by the 80s, the current trend of mermaid core, and by my love of jellyfish. It portrays the aquatic creature with organza ruffles which acts as the oral arms of the jelly fish and the embroidered vein- like lines to create a tentacle looking structure and also to take the focus away from the bone casing. Moreover, the chest area is decorated with pearls to look like the jellyfish itself with its distinctive features.
The colour is a dark blue shade, which is said to be the trending shade for SS25 and , apart from the umbrella-like area of the corset, the rest of the design is the same nude tone of the corset mesh material with the embroidery and the organza ruffles.
To style this piece, a ruffles skirt would be a perfect match for mermaid-core corset to give it more of an ocean girl vibe. But if you don’t want to wear a skirt, it can be styled over a favourite pair of blue jeans and it will be perfect for a little aquarium adventure.
. If I were to create my own independent brand, this corset would be in one of the collections. It is not designed for any specific labels but it could work for a fashion brand such as , “everydayisrunway”.
This style of corset is aimed at people who love innovative fashion and wear unique statement pieces or styles.
