He’s already scooped a string of national awards, but now Psyche owner Steve Cochrane has been honoured by his home town Middlesbrough for bringing shoppers into the area.

Mr Cochrane, 55, opened the three-storey luxury store Psyche in Linthorpe Road in 2002, and added a spin-off called Style Lab a month ago in the Cleveland Centre.

This week he was honoured for his “economic, social and physical regeneration” of Middlesbrough town centre with a special civic award by Mayor Ray Mallon.

Mr Cochrane described the win as “awesome”. He has long been a champion of the North East, declaring: “As far as I’m concerned, Middlesbrough is where it’s at.”
