Last night, Fashion Product and Promotion students from the University of Sunderland debuted “PURE”, a sophisticated fashion event for a high-class audience.
PURE was about expressing art, form, function and design as well as structure and sculpture through garments.
The show comprised of three catwalk collections. The first was ‘The White Shirt Project,’ produced by current second year design students in their first year. Each garment was white, pure, a clean cut background to express the designers’ individual style.
Each shirt was one of a kind, featuring dipped-hems, pussy-bows, darts, button-down collars , standing collars and even one dog-ear collar.
The second collection featured jackets produced by first year design students, in collaboration with St.Oswald’s Hospice with a focus on using up-cycling to create garments.
The final catwalk show was the “PURE collection”, produced by second year fashion students, they had combined all the things they’d learnt over the last six months, to produce their own ‘pure’ collection which emphasised silhouette detail, each garment with it’s own characteristics, representing the different ways the collection could be interpreted.
Bethany Chawner, a second year design student at the University of Sunderland, said: “I think the night went incredibly well! We all worked together to create an amazing evening that everyone seemed to enjoy.
“It was a lot of hard work over the last 12 weeks but it was all worth it when we got to see how much people enjoyed the show.”
The event was held at Life of Riley, in Sunderland city centre, where the students put together a fantastic show. There were ‘PURE’ cocktails, a raffle, popcorn, cakes, a selfie booth and even a beauty bar, which guests were welcomed to use.
The Fashion Product and Promotion course leader, Jill Kirkham, said: “The atmosphere make her feel quite emotional”, as she felt all of her students’ hard work over the last four months had really paid off.
A big ‘well done’ to all students involved and we can’t wait to see what you’ll produce next year.
