I eagerly unwrapped the box to my first pair of white classic red-trim All Star Converses of Christmas when I was 14. Little did I know that these shoes were about to change my life. I was at the age where I was discovering my style – you know, everyone had a chav or punk stage right before we all realised that grey Reebok joggers or black and pink sweat bands were NOT cool. These white trainers that seemed to have fallen from a glorious shoe heaven got me back on the right style track, and I’ve never looked back since.
Converses for Christmas became a regular occurrence. I’d wear them day and night and by October time they resembled more of a desperately washed out grey rather than the pristine white that they once were. Opening up a brand new pair and throwing out the old was the best feeling. Having sparkly, clean trainers made me feel like I had my life (or, at least my outfit) together – and to this day I still swear by that.
Since then, my timeless white low-top converse shoe has turned into a collection of two All Stars’ (hi and low top), Nike Air Forces’, Superga’s and my newest addition; Adidas Stan Smith’s. I’m only slightly obsessed – I promise!
I’m all about the comfort. None of that walking-in-heels-so-hight-that-I’m-testing-my-acrobatic-balance-while-shopping kind of thing. White trainers put the cool and casual into any outfit – literally!
Midi skirt and top like Suki? Throw some Nikes on. Cute daytime LBD like Rihanna? Chuck on your Stan Smith’s! For me, they’re a must have for all occasions. Dress them up or dress them down, but 100% show them off. Live and breathe white sneakers.
