Style Challenge: day and night outfit for less than £30

For a styling session, we were challenged to curate a day and night look for less than £30. In my case, this was like music to my ears as I frequent the charity and vintage shops weekly as well as working part time in one.

I set out to find pieces that suited my own personal style. I aimed for darker colours, patterns and graphics, keeping an eye out for leather and fur.

DAY OUTFIT

For my day outfit, I found a midi denim skirt originally from New Look for £2. It was in fairly new condition which was a plus. I paired it with an old label Atmosphere t-shirt, with a cool graphic which I liked. I thought that having a graphic tee would make an everyday outfit a bit more interesting. The t-shirt was also £2!

As for accessories, I bought two layering necklaces, one of black beads and pearls and one red statement piece to add a bit of colour to the outfit. For both items, it cost £1.50. The bag, originally from Marks and Spencer, was £2.

Then, I hit gold at the charity shop. For £7, I found a black afghan coat originally from Bonmarche. I thought that adding this to both outfits made the outfits look put together and more expensive than they actually were, as everything was bought second hand! The dark red Dr. Marten inspired boots were £4 and finished off the day look nicely, tying in together with the red in the necklace.

For the night look, I chose to keep some of the same pieces from the day look to keep it versatile and allowing for a quick change from day to night. I picked up a dress from another charity shop originally from Next, for £3 and paired it with the same afghan coat.

NIGHT OUTFIT

To help further elevate this outfit into a night-out look, I found these leather boots for £5.

The total for both of these looks was £26.50, so £3.50 under budget! Style challenges like these ones prove that you don’t need to go out and spend hundreds on a new outfit, pop into your local charity shops and pick up some gems, you get affordable clothing that fits your style while also helping a charity raise money.
