Lipstick marks: Tacky or Trendy?
Since their popularity in the ‘early 2000s trashy aesthetic’ lipstick marks have recently come back in style, most notably through the pop icon Sabrina Carpenter who utilises the marks in her ‘short n sweet’ tour outfits. Miss Carpenter’s sparkly kiss marks on her tights and body suits would never be thought of as trashy and have actually helped to push this aesthetic back into mainstream style.

However, as someone who works in the hospitality industry, I can say that lipstick marks aren’t always the cute, trendy symbols people think they are, especially when having to scrub them off of mugs and glasses, as I’m sure others can agree.

You may also, like me, have seen these marks cropping up on your Pinterest page; on coffee cups, mirrors and wine glasses. These posts made me wonder how our readers felt on the subject, whether they found lipstick marks a symbol of tackiness and poor manners, or if they saw the aesthetic and trendy side to them. In an Instagram poll there was overwhelming support for the little pink marks, with 85% of our readers agreeing with the sentiment that lipstick marks are the calling card of only the trendiest of people.
So next time you leave a bright pink smudge on the edge of your coffee cup, don’t feel ashamed, snap a pic and remember our readers think you’re pretty trendy.
