Creative Cake Bag: Making Clothes from Recycled Items

The Theme:

Our challenge for today’s styling photoshoot was ‘household items as clothes’. This could include any item that you would usually find in your home, such as a bin bag, tea towels, wrapping paper, washing up gloves or bulldog clips.

The Main Outfit:

For this, I wanted to reuse items I already had that might otherwise go straight to waste so I used a newspaper that my recent Vinted parcel’s seller had used as packaging. I decided to cut and tape the newspaper to create a dress with a sweetheart neckline and an assymetrical hemline. I was inspired by Alex Russo’s (Selena Gomez) comic book dress from the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place.

The Accessories:

Ballet flats have been trending over the last few months so I crafted some black ballet flat shoes out of a bin bag. One of my favourite snacks recently has been Jaffa Cakes so I had plenty of spare cardboard boxes to make a blue shoulder bag with a front pocket that everyone loved. Lastly, I used a few toilet paper rolls to create bangle bracelet to complete the look.
