Diesel’s Fall Winter 2023 collection hit the runway at Milan fashion week exuding sex. The models showed off Glenn Marten’s incredible talent while walking a unique set composed of 200,000 condoms in partnership with Durex celebrating individual freedom, pleasure, and sex positivity. Diesel made a political statement with this collab saying they stand for democracy, choice, and sex positivity as a human right.
Everything about this show oozed confidence and Glenn Martens described the collection as “More condensed and concentrated, more grown up, fun, strong and playful.” Diesel did what they do best- flaunting creative and new ways to rock denim, such as jeans with a corseted waist or pairing the bold harsh denim with sheer mesh and lace to feminise it. It appears that with his latest offering Martens took some inspiration from the set and collaboration with Durex as the shredded and sheer panels on the denim seemed to be referencing the barrier contraception method. There were also trousers with “FOR SUCSEXFUL LIVING” boldly printed across them further proving the safe sex theme.
Other aspects of this collection featured pinstripe oversized suits and distressed leather giving an almost snakeskin effect. Slinky crystal embellished dresses, tube tops and miniskirts emblazoned with the large metal D. logo were also prominent in this collection. Garments were made to look as though they were falling apart on the model’s bodies, taking distressed clothing to a whole other level.
Similar to many of the fashion trends circulating right now this collection was quintessentially nineties. One of the more unusual points was the addition of crochet garments as this is quite the opposite of Diesel’s use of harder harsher fabrics such as denim and leather however, much like the rest of Martens work earlier in the show, it was also extremely distressed looking as though it had been shredded.
This collection definitely went down a treat as it perfectly conveyed the classic Diesel energy while keeping things interesting with a creative and unexpected twist. The message they were trying to send about sex positivity shone through, making the whole collection appear very cohesive sharing their extremely powerful message.
