A University of Sunderland fashion student is set to launch her very own vintage fashion market in Sunderland.
Elena Amos, who is in her second year of studying Fashion Design and Promotion, wants to offer an affordable and sustainable alternative to high street and designer shopping.
Thanks to the support of Sunderland City Council, the market will make a test run early next year, and if it is a success with shoppers, the market may have a regular slot.

The market is planned to take place on March 1, 2025 in Lambton House car park in Sunniside, Sunderland. Since its targeted towards students and young adults, the prices will stay accessible to ensure as many people as possible can access the clothes on offer.
Elena said: “The origin of the market idea was through the university which put me in contact with Kate – a lovely member of Sunderland City Council – in her project of bringing a more creative side to the more deprived areas of Sunderland.”

In addition to a wide selection of vintage and second-hand designer clothing, plans are also in place to have food and drink stalls offering seating, so customers have access to an accommodating setting.
Elena explained: “The market itself will hold not only vintage clothing but allows for creative students to sell their own products including graphic designers, illustrators, fashion designers or anyone interested as a way to show the community to the next generation of artists.”
Taking inspiration from other second-hand markets in the North East, such as Durham Vintage, Sunniside was chosen as it has multiple large open spaces perfect for a pop-up market, as well as its perception as an artistic area within Sunderland.
The market will offer pre-loved clothing of a variety of sizes in both menswear and womenswear.
