Actually Scary Halloween Costumes for 2025
Halloween costumes have become just a cheap corset and a frilly skirt with a few accessories, and they’re never scary anymore. So Fashion North wanted to give you some inspiration for some actually scary Halloween costumes this year.
Halloween first came from the Celts, who believed that the boundary between the world of the living and the dead mixed on October 31st, allowing spirits to visit the living world. The costumes originated from the idea that they could ward off harmful spirits, meaning they were always supposed to be scary, and we think we should go back to our roots.
Masked costumes
There are many different masked characters from horror films that you can copy costumes from.
The Purge LED mask:
The Purge movies are based on the idea of giving citizens 12 hours to do whatever they want, no laws, no rules, just free rein to do whatever they want. The mask costume comes from people wearing them to hide their face while committing crimes.
You can wear this mask with any plain hoody and jeans or joggers, it’s the mask that scares, and it’s only £9.49!
Michael Myers from the Halloween movies:
The 13 Halloween movies follow Michael Myers, who stalks and murders the people of his town on Halloween.
Only £32.99 for all of this! You just need to add any pair of shoes, and probably some layers underneath.
Ghostface from Scream:
The six Scream movies follow the character Ghostface as he murders multiple people in the disguise.
£8.99 for this mask. You could get any simple black robe and a costume knife to complete the outfit!
Makeup options
If you’re good at doing makeup, here are some options for you to try.
Broken Doll:
This costume could depict multiple characters: Chucky from Child’s Play, Annabelle from The Conjuring films, or Slappy the Dummy from Goosebumps.
This outfit is £20.99. Add some tights, shoes and accessories and watch a makeup tutorial and you’re all done.
Twin from The Shining:
The Shining twins haunt a hotel and invite the main character to play.
If you’re a twin this costume is perfect for you! £11.89 for the dress plus a few accessories and the makeup, you’ve got a scary and cheap outfit.
