Brooches are something we think of as adorning older ladies’ knitwear. But are they making a comeback?
They hit the headlines in other Brexit news when Lady Hale, one of the 11 Supreme Court judges who ruled Prime Minister Boris Johnson had acted unlawfully proroguing Parliament.
Before you switch off, all fashionistas noticed was the 74-year-old judge’s out-sized spider brooch, among a collection she wears to court. It instantly became a hit with 7,000 brooch-inspired T shirts selling within 24 hours.
So should we all be pinning on a brooch, or leave it to our grandmas?
As well the giant spider, Lady Hale has been seen with a caterpillar, a frog and a dragonfly brooch.
Either way, after being seen with her giant spider, a brand called Balcony Shirts have made a t-shirt featuring a spider which they are selling on eBay. They’ve currently sold 6,837 t-shirts and 30% of the profits was donated to National Campaign for Homeless People Limited.

A Balcony Shirts spokesperson said for The Guardian: ”We often print topical t-shirts, and as everyone on Twitter was talking about the brooch we thought it was a great angle for a new design. We can’t believe it’s taken off quite the way it has.” In this case the brooch has shown its power and, maybe thanks to this insect accessory, brooches may become trendy again.

Giant brooches could also be seen at the Versace Spring/Summer 2020 fashion show and, as we can tell, these brooches can be worn by everyone at any age.
If you have no clue how to style your outfit, why don’t you wear your brooch with a suit or even with your comfy sweatshirt. It may add the detail your outfit has been missing.
