Milan Fashion Week AW15: Versace

There was a burst of colour and a trip back to the 60s in the highly anticipated Versace AW show.

The collection welcomed the return of vintage inspired fashion; from flares to bright block colours – the show was delightfully nostalgic.

As models appeared from behind the scarlet backdrop, of oriental shaped architecture, the influence of 60s, 70s and 80s fashion immediately became apparent.

The basis of the designs consisted of 80s female power suits, without the shoulder pads, in black pinstripes, yellow, red and blue.

Many designs had a single base colour such as sunshine yellow, ruby-red or pixie green, and were made up of thick capes, with matching tights and thigh-high leather boot; these statement 60s looks were topped off with oversized round sunglasses – also coordinated by colour.

The styling for the show included sheer black tights and black suede stilettos, with a thick heel black ankle straps and a gold platform at the front.

As well as the splash of colour seen on the runway, the black basis of the garments accentuated many designs; one look featured a long-sleeved black chiffon top, which had the VERSACE letters beaded across the bodice in a sort of mismatch fashion as if they had just been casually thrown onto the garment, the logo was beaded with sequins as well as multi-coloured beads, it truly was a sight for sore eyes!

Statement pieces included an electric green fur coat, styled with a VERSACE type-faced choker, and various mini-dresses all with black pencil skirts and heavily beaded bodices, each branded with the Versace title across the bust and hash tags – beaded with small light-reflecting beads that shone under the lights of the catwalk.

Overall, Versace brought us a dazzling collection and we can’t wait to see how it will influence what we’ll be wearing in six months time.
