Fashion North was lucky enough to have Kate Gorman come in and show us a collection of her jewellery also known as wearable art. Kate has recently shown at Newcastle Fashion Week 2014 and has her new collection Night on the Tyne on display at The Baltic in Newcastle.

The collection is visually stunning and has had a huge interest. Speaking to us about her roots and inspiration Kate said: “I am a passionate North Easterner and am very proud of where I come from. I live on the River Wear, but this collection takes its inspiration from slightly further north, the bridges over the Tyne. The Tyne has a large number of bridges over it, with a concentration in Newcastle-Gateshead. Everyone in the North East has a favourite bridge, and everyone has their own reasoning too.”

We shot pieces from various collections such as, Code. Code takes its inspiration for colour and mark-making from David Hockney’s The Bigger Picture exhibition. We also shot pieces from her Spice collection. Spice is inspired by spices such as chillies, coriander seeds and star anise. “By looking closely and then playing with a range of techniques I have developed a collection that offers a fascinating range of textures, shapes and colours.”

Kate is an extremely creative and talented women and we at Fashion North can not wait to see what she does next!
