NYFW: Ana Ono Intimates Show

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, 1 in 8 women in the UK and US will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. 

Dana Donofree was one of those women. At the age of just 27, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy.

Now, an advocate for breast cancer she set up a lingerie company: “made for women with breast cancer by women with breast cancer.” Dana created Ana Ono with the mission to “design specifically for those who’ve had breast reconstruction, breast surgery, mastectomy, or are living with other conditions that cause pain or discomfort because I believe that comfort should not be a compromise.”

For the second year running, the Pennsylvanian lingerie and loungewear brand hit the runway at New York Fashion Week. Walking at Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York on Sunday, February 11, were breast cancer survivors.

This brand joined forces, for the second year, with the American non-profit charity Cancerland. This charities founder, Champagne Joy was also diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away in March 2017.

Models of all ethnicities, body shapes and sizes walked on Sunday proudly showing off their scars from their battle with cancer. Each empowering model who walked had #Cancerland written somewhere on their bodies.

The garments which were showcased on Sunday, catered to all types of cancer patients. Most exposed the models breasts and scars with open, sheer garments while some models walked with only outerwear, only to take it off and walk exposed showing off their scars.

Other models wore specially made bras in beautiful lace and simple designs.

All proceeds from the show went to #Cancerland, with 50 per cent of their profits going directly to research while the other half goes to creating media content and a platform for cancer victims.
