Spring is here, it’s time for a clear out

You wouldn’t think spring is finally here with this windy weather we’ve been having here in the North East. Although we may be sticking to our woollen jumpers and knee-high boots for slightly longer, this time of year is adequate for a spring clean, whether that be only your wardrobe or any situations in your life that you aren’t feeling anymore.

Here are 5 things to help you along the way when achieving new life goals or just a good old clear out.

Minimalism: A documentary about the important things.

Ryan Nicodemus and best friend, Joshua Becker are two men that needed change in their life. After realising their successful jobs weren’t making them happy in the long run, they decided to become minimalists. Although this documentary covers minimalism to an extreme, it looks inside the lives of minimalists from various walks of life e.g. minimalising your home space, your wardrobe.

How to get better use from your hangers.

A good little hack for checking whether you’re getting full use out of your clothes, is to turn all of your hangers in the same direction and to turn them around once you’ve worn that item. After a month check your hangers and if some are still facing the original direction, it’s time to give that item the boot.

Sending unwanted items to your local charity shops is a great way for helping the community.

Inspirational reading

Instead of buying the usual glossy mags, why not invest in some inspiring books to help you spring clean this summer? Sarah Knight is a popular author with many when it comes to putting yourself first and getting your act together. She may not be able to help you in the shopping department but her advice on life in general, will point you in the direction of a clearer mind.

Project 333

Project 333 is a minimalism fashion challenge created by Courtney Carver, where the goal is to dress with 33 items or less for three months. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2006, Courtney decided she needed a lifestyle change and Project 333 contributed to her stress free life.

Fancy a challenge? You can hear more about Courtney’s work over at bemorewithless.com and also in the Netflix documentary Minimalism: A documentary about the important things.

Check the dates

We are all probably guilty for not checking dates on our makeup products. But if you get in to the habit of doing this regularly it can be a great way of cleaning out your makeup bag, your drawers and organisers. Once you run out of one item and throw it away, you can then purchase another, instead of owning more than five of the same product. As well as having a clear out this can be a great way to save some money.

So, that’s our five top tips for this years spring clean. Will you be challenging yourself with some of these hacks or do you have your own ideas that we need to know about? Tweet us and let us know at @Fashion_North
