Voted Pantone ‘Colour of the Year 2019’, Living Coral – referred to by WGSN as Coral Lava – has been predicted to continue to dominate the fashion and design industry this spring/summer.
Lifestyle and interiors senior editor at WGSN, Alexei Cowan, has said; “We’ve been tracking coral for a few seasons and the vibrant colour is definitely not going away any time soon”.
So, we’re guessing you can expect to see a lot more of this cheerful, vivacious shade on sale in the upcoming months online and in stores.

Fashion houses such as Prada, Marc Jacobs and Brandon Maxwell incorporated the buoyant colour into their spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear runway looks that showcased late last year. Prada chose to style a coral cami top over a black and caution yellow patterned pencil skirt. Marc Jacobs and Brandon Maxwell took a more unique approach and used the coral shade to add emphasis to more extravagant designs.
Power couple Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa, along with Regina King, were all spotted wearing coral tones to the Oscar after party this year, which is hosted by Vanity Fair.
The celebrity couple paid respect to the late and great Karl Lagerfeld in matching coral Fendi attire. ‘Best supporting actress’ winner, Regina King, wore a custom chiffon, coral gown created by Monique Lhuilier from their fall 2019 collection that featured a ruffled, keyhole neckline. She opted to style her frock with earrings from Irene Neuwirth.
This expressive tone allows your wardrobe to speak a bold statement. Online retailers such as ASOS and Pretty Little Thing have a range of clothing now available in the fun, ambitious shade. But, the love for this colour does not end there. It is also widely available in the form of shoes, swimwear and accessories for men as well as women.

Coral tones make for the perfect hue this year. With social media and its number of users on the rise, people want to stand out among the crowd. Living Coral allows them to do so as it is engaging yet not overpowering.
It has already proven to have a lively Instagram presence by @designbyaikonik, an Australia based graphic designer, and @essence_cosmetics, a make-up brand manufactured in Germany. Carissa Smart, the brain behind @designbyaikonik, created a flat lay of coral themed products which instantly grabs your attention. Essence has worked coral into their #whatspoppinessence series on Instagram to promote the shade while also giving a pop of colour to their feed.

This peachy hue has the potential to be excellently executed as home décor. There are many chic coral décor styles that are available high end and on the high street.
Keri Ann, from the blog Thistlewood Farms, said in a blog post; “The transformation is all due to one of my favourite paint colours of all time (Coral Reef SW 6606). It makes such a colour statement that we only painted one wall. Quick decorating tip: if you want to add colour and it seems a little overwhelming? Pick one wall to add your colour.”
So, whether you choose to add an accent wall or simply settle on adding an accent cushion to your bed, make sure you are literally living among coral this season.
