The bohemian style has always been associated with unconventional attitudes and the rejection of mainstream views on life. However, the bohemian look has taken an even more rebellious turn for Spring 2019 as the style has been toughened up with a utilitarian edge.

The key to be your own stylist for this trend is not to over think the look. It includes a combination of many spring ‘19’s mini trends such as satin midi skirts, trucker jackets, silk dresses and floral prints. The colour palette is kept as neutral as possible with muted earthy tones such as warm, terracotta hues, olive and khaki greens and sandy beiges with splashes of colour in deep cherry reds and garnet.

The typically effortless and free-living appearance of boho chic has been modernised with a resilient façade, bringing the mid-twentieth century, nonconformist style to the forefront of the twenty-first century and back onto our high streets. The psychedelic bohemian look traces as far back as the 1960s from the hippie subculture with an ethos for peace, love and freedom. This perspective was translated through their eclectic fashion with free-flowing dresses, kaftans, tunics and romantic sleeves that combined inspiration from many different cultures and societies. But in 2019, the fashion industry has decided it is time to toughen up this abstract appearance by pairing the softened cotton and denim with leather and utility inspired silhouettes.

The recent collaborative collection between actress Zendaya and renowned designer, Tommy Hilfiger is the perfect reflection of the reinvented hippie trend. With 70s paisley inspired prints paired with toughened deep red leather trench coats and skirts, its popularity has led to an almost sell-out collection.

This rebellious bohemian trend is the perfect everyday look that brings a seamless mix of spring delicacy and street style edge. This trend is for the daring and careless as there is no shying away from patterns and prints, and colourful combinations. However, do not fear it as it’s easy to recreate with many pieces we’re sure you’ll already have in your wardrobe – you’ve just never thought of matching them together.

Try pairing a simplistic floral or paisley print slip dress with a khaki cropped denim trucker jacket, finished off with a white rope bag and black heeled mules, all of which can be purchased from the Topshop ‘Dream State’ collection. The £39, paisley print, satin slip dress and £27, rope bag gives this outfit the boho base and by adding in the £46, urban black mules and khaki trucker jacket for £42, you give the outfit just the right amount of edge to chase this new summer trend.

Another of our rebel hippie outfit ideas is a chocolate brown, self-made, co-ord set. Both of the clothing pieces are from PrettyLittleThing.com so this is an affordable way to get the biggest trend of the summer into your wardrobe. The key boho piece to this look is the chocolate brown cropped bardot top for just £20 with a tortoiseshell ring detail. We’ve chosen to pair this with wide leg £18 chocolate brown trousers to keep with the warm earthy tones of the boho aesthetic. Finally, the outfit is accessorised with Topshop, £49, mustard clog heels and a warm chocolate, TPU bucket bag for £25 with tortoiseshell strap to compliment the detailing in the top.
