‘Victorian bride aesthetic’- could this be your favourite trend in the upcoming year?

Are you tired of all the clothing and make-up style trends from this century? Then check out this new aesthetic that is inspired by the hauntingly sophisticated fashion of previous eras.

Mood board by Katie Higson

Since trend forecasters have predicted that Victorian era inspired silhouettes and materials like lace and velvet are going to become more popular in the next few months and years, the Fashion North team has curated a mood board of inspiration and re-named it ‘the Victorian bride’ style.

The Victorian bride aesthetic centres around lots of lace and sheer fabrics for layering (in both black and white), maxi length dresses, Juliet sleeves, hooded cloaks, frill details and flared sleeves. For footwear, black ballet flats, knee high lace-up boots and chunky Mary Jane shoes will match this look. Velvet choker necklaces, dangly pendant earrings, pearl necklaces, lockets and small structured bags with unique details are also a part of this style.

On the other hand, the make-up looks and hairstyles are more inspired by 1920s trends with dark smoky eyeshadow, classic red lips, thin drawn-on eyebrows and a fake beauty mark above the lip. Some inspiration can also be found in the 60s with some early adopters of this trend drawing lower lashes on their face like the famous model Twiggy. The rest of the face is usually left plain with a pale foundation shade and little to no contour, which is reminiscent of the gothic style from the late 1800s.

Since this aesthetic gathers inspiration from both Victorian Christianity and Paganism imagery, symbols like angels and devils, crosses, moons, stars, eyes and hearts would help to curate this style. Additionally, stain glass windows, candles, ornate frames and stone statues would be great home decor ideas if you like this aesthetic.

This type of style has been spotted multiple times online on influencers such as Youtuber and fashion commentator Mina Le, and the creator of the 75 hard fashion challenge (an online fashion trend that encourages sustainability and re-wearing clothes), Mandy Lee, also known by the username ‘old loser in Brooklyn’. Both of these content creators have been ahead of trends in the past, for example Mandy Lee predicted the rise in popularity of the controversial tabi split-toe shoe a while before it became mainstream.

Furthermore, some celebrities have been spotted at public events with bridal looking outfits, including Gracie Abrams at the 2025 Grammy’s as she wore a long off the shoulder cream Chanel dress with a black ribbon belt, flower detail on the neckline and sheer fabric hooded draped over her hair. She styled this outfit with a dark brown smoky eye look and big diamond and pearl earrings.
