What’s in my bag?

This week our style challenge was flat lays, we each had to come up with a theme for our shoot. I decided to choose the theme ‘What’s in my bag?’. The idea being that the simplistic layout and mundane items, gives you a look into someone’s life and gives you a feel for who someone is without even seeing them.

I was heavily inspired for this shoot by the eyewear brand, Lexxola. As promotional material they put out a collection of flat lays containing items like glasses, nail polish, perfumes, books, wallets etc. I found this to be a simple yet effective way to convey somebody’s taste and fashion sense without actually showing garments.

In my flat lay I chose to use items that I use daily, such as my Ray-Ban sunglasses, lip-gloss, rings, a digital camera, ID, keys and a necklace. All of these items are personal to me and represent me as a person. For one shot, I simply used a white background and placed out some of the items and took the shot from a bird’s eye view. The second, I experimented with multi-layered plains of glass, which effected the focal point and background of the shot. I really enjoyed playing around with this set-up and seeing the final outcome.
