What’s the story, Rory? Get the Gilmore Girl’s grown-up new look

Yes, finally, the long awaited mum and daughter sobfest that is The Gilmore Girls has premiered on Netflix. And here at Fashion North, we started girlcrushing all over again on swotty Rory’s preppy style.

Played by Alexis Bledel, she has always rocked a knee high sock and kilt combo. And we lived through all her teen fights with her mum, school years, breakups and make-ups, and those cringeworthy dinners at the grandparents.

We last saw Rory fulfill her dream to become a top journalist following Barack Obama on the trail to the White House – still in those geeky clothes.

But a decade on, it’s a newly-polished and stylised Rory who’s returned to Stars Hollow to reunite with her achingly-trendy mum Lorelai.

Brenda Maben, the show’s costume designer, told Hollywood Reporter: “Rory has been travelling the world and writing and spending a lot of time in Europe – that’s reflected in her clothing. For Rory, I used a little bit of Burberry and Nanette Lepore and Tory Burch shoes. Most importantly, she has a power bag that is blue, which is one of Rory’s favourite colours. It was manufactured by Jamah, a Los-Angeles based luxury handbag line. I used that bag specifically because she’s coming from Europe and the first time you see her, I think it’s important that she had something that says “I’m going for it. I’m going to be successful in what I’m doing.” I thought that bag just summed that up.”

Here’s how to get Rory’s look from the high street right now…A grades not guaranteed.
