Fascinated by fashion history and how so many incredible designers and stylists helped shape fashion into what it is today? Why don’t you have a quick look at the evolution of fashion throughout four of the most important decades and see how you could also take inspiration from your favourite designers?

Moodboard by Neave Colwell
In this styled shoot, I concentrated on four iconic decades that greatly influenced fashion and culture. I selected four prominent designers and stylists from these periods and designed an outfit inspired by each. I used second-hand shopping to find the pieces, primarily from charity shops and Vinted.
First up, the 1960s inspired by designer Mary Quant. Coloured tights and short hemlines can describe Quant’s vision and who was one of the pioneers who began the liberation of fashion for women.
Next, is a 1970s punk Vivienne Westwood inspired look, with the iconic tartan and leather. Pin badges, safety pins and a moody look will help achieve that punk attitude.
The 1980s look is inspired by Madonna’s stylist Maripol, who was behind Madonna’s iconic early years looks. Lace, bracelets and layered necklaces galore.
Lastly, the 1990s look was inspired by Dolce and Gabbanna’s iconic catwalks from the late 1990s. Slip dresses and chokers were a vital part of many of the looks, as well as mesh which I included in a pair of dress gloves.
