Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Jules B shop in Acorn Road in Jesmond.
At 9:29 this morning (Wednesday November 25) Northumbria Police received a report that two men in balaclavas had entered the shop armed with knives and stole money and clothing. They fled the scene a silver Hyundai i20 hatchback car in the direction of Osborne Road.
However, the first is described as being around 6ft tall and of slim build. The second man around 5ft8 to 5ft9ins tall and also of slim build.
Nikki, a sales advisor from Jules B, said: “We are upset and shocked that this has happened in Jesmond.”
No one has been injured and officers are at the scene.
Offices have been in the area carrying out enquiries all morning and reassuring residents.
Central Superintendent Christina Barrett said: “A full investigation of this incident is underway and a team of detectives are carrying out enquiries to try and find those responsible.
“The area of Acorn Road will have been really busy around 9:30am this morning and I’d urge anyone who might have been in the area and seen the two men, or the car, around the time before the robbery happened to contact us and pass on any information.
“Thankfully nobody was injured during this incident however the staff members have been left incredibly shaken and we will be supporting them. Jesmond is a tight knit local community and we know that everyone – local residents and local businesses – will rally round and support one another and give all of our officers the help they need.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident, saw two men in a silver / blue car in the area this morning, or who has any information that could help police is asked to ring 101 ext 69191 quoting ref number 226 as soon as possible.

This morning, detectives arrested two men (aged 27 and 29) on suspicion of robbery.
