The hashtag #wallofsilence is taking over social media.

Avon launched their Wall of Silence campaign on Monday 3 November as part of its operation, Speak Out Against Domestic Violence.

One in four women are likely to experience domestic violence in their lifetime (Refuge, 2014), so to raise awareness of this, Avon has teamed up with Glamour, and women’s charities Refuge and Women’s Aid.

Each time the hashtag #wallofsilence is posted along with a sshh selfie, Avon will donate £1 to each charity.

The campaign was created by Charli Bailey, a survivor of domestic violence herself, released this statement as part of the campaign: “My Wall of Silence campaign is about everyone in society coming together and taking a stand not only against domestic violence but the fact that we are not talking enough about a crime that kills two women in the UK every week.”

The campaign has already seen high profile celebrities uploading their selfies onto Instgram and Twitter, such as regular Glamour contributors Dawn O’Porter and Fearne Cotton.

If you want to get involved, simply take a selfie of yourself showing a sshh sign and upload it to social media using the hashtag #wallofsilence.
