1. The Pantry Bakery & Coffee Shop

Based in Whitburn in Sunderland The Pantry is a hub of cakey delights. Currently housing some seasonal specials of Mince Pies, Christmas Pudding Cupcakes and Cheesecakes with Strawberry & White Chocolate rolled into the sweet cream cheese mixture. The Pantry also do cake gifts and will wrap and deliver over the Christmas period. 2. Let There Be Crumbs

Locally sourced food, great coffee and over 15 different types of cakes to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. But if you’re more into a sit down affair with a classic feel, then Crumbs do Cream and Afternoon teas to suit any taste. Located in Roker just outside Sunderland, Crumbs overlooks the sea, making it the ideal place to dine with great view in the North East.

3. Naked Treats

No it doesn’t mean removing your clothes. It means the ingredients are organic, vegetarian or vegan; even the deserts are stripped back and laid bare. With speciality Raw Vegan Cheesecakes made with Chocolate and Strawberry, Vanilla and mixed berry swirl. But if cheesecake isn’t your thing then Brownies, Chocolate Torte and Coconut Macaroons are also available to get your sweet tooth into and satisfy your urges.

4. The Pudding Club

So many cakes they have had to spread themselves over three locations, Fore Street in Hexham (NE46 1LZ), Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth (NE61 1NS) and Earls Court in Low Prudhoe (NE42 6QG). Rainbow cakes, Cookie bars loaded with Oreos, Choc Chips and M&Ms and layer cakes adorned with biscuit for a seriously intense sugary treat.

5. VIP Teas

One of High Spen’s best-kept secrets, VIP Teas, is vintage inspired eatery with contemporary cakes. Earl Grey and Blueberry with piped pink buttercream roses, massive scones made with Cheese, Sultana and their newest addition, Apple, and Neapolitan Marble Cake with pastel icing is enough to make Mary Berry knees weak.

6. Katie’s Garden

In Sunniside in Sunderland is a place with a tree in the centre of it, and so much bunting The Bake Off Tent would be jealous. Katie’s Garden allows you to get your craft on, whilst sipping a hot chocolate served on turn in a mason jar, or grab a muffin and a brew for £2.50 or enjoy an afternoon in it’s whimsical surroundings.
