Amelia Wickstead unveiled her new AW ’25 ready-to-wear collection at the contemporary art gallery Saatchi in London.

The striking white backdrop walls made the strong silhouettes sharp, and the dramatic sound of Hitchcock’s 1963 The Birds morphed into a sterile, yet tasteful vibe for the catwalk. Wickstead preserved her contemporary and effortlessly elegant elements: sharp shoulders on blazers and straight necklined dresses. Hair and makeup were kept minimal, with slick-backs and ponytails dominating the afternoon.

Wickstead featured three brown croc-skin inspired pieces. A long trench, perfect as a statement piece, the shorter jacket version fitted at the waist and a below-the-knee skirt were a shiny experimental addition to the catwalk.

The collection drew inspiration from the award-winning works of The Birds costume designer Edith Head. With boxy suits and Wickstead’s iconic colour blocking combos, we travel back to the 60’s in a kaleidoscope of tones: pistachio and crimson intertwine with bright turquoise and purple.

The skirts are of modest length and with pillbox hats being the main accessory, the looks feel reminiscent of the fashion of 60’s style icon Jackie Kennedy. Wickstead is no imposter for dressing royals, with her dresses being noticed in wardrobes of Princess Kate Middleton and Megan Markle.

However, Wickstead didn’t forget the more dazzling pieces for an evening out. The gowns were a mix of sharper cuts and flowy edges- the image of a modern woman. Silver flower embellishments sparkled atop otherwise minimalistic dresses with matching flower elements on the shoes.

The collection oozes with practicality, translating a certain readiness for any objective in a busy life of a classy fashionista. In a Vogue interview, Wickstead reflected on creating the collection saying: “you can be put together but without fuss and without having to compromise – on comfort, for instance”. The pieces were designed with the intention of being a modern, elegant uniform with a dash of colour and sparkle- exactly what a ready-to-wear collection should be.
