Tomorrow, November 23, in Keel Square Sunderland the festive season officially starts.
Pixie Lott will be performing some of her most well known hits and a couple of her new songs from her upcoming album at 5.30pm before the official Christmas lights turn on at 5.45pm. But make sure you get there early as it is expected to get very busy.
For the first time Sunderland is seeing a big name turn on their Christmas lights – Pixie Lott and this is due to new organizers. Sunderland Council aren’t organizing it for the first time ever but Sunderland Business Improvement District is.
Despite the big name, the night will still celebrate Sunderland as a city and the talent it has to offer as host Sun FM breakfast show presenter Simon Grundy explains:
“We’ll have local schools singing Christmas carols to put everybody in the festive spirit. They sometimes have some representatives from the ice rink. So they’ll come on and talk about what’s going to be happening in Keel Square with regards to the Christmas market.
The worst thing to happen to Sunderland, as much as anybody thought twenty years ago it was the best thing to happen, was the Metro extension because that’s taking people away from Sunderland. So, they want to stop people from going to Newcastle, the Metrocentre and Durham but to stay local and spend your money here and it’s all about celebrating the great things we have to offer here in Sunderland. So anything we can do to help because we are all about Sunderland and we are happy to help to host it and get a pop star like Pixie Lott and give it a lot of publicity on the radio.”
